Kindred, 2022, mushroom compost, new and reused hessian and jute thread

'Kindred' engages mushroom compost, hessian and jute thread to document experiences of walking through the natural world. The installation investigates non-extractive ways of relating to the earth. Or in other words relationships which do not seek to take or harm the environment. This project explores the composition of walking as an act of relationality and connection-making with non-human lifeforms (plant, animal, material). A method to consider oneself in affinity with another being, an undoing of the individual and embracement of WE (WE referring to a gathering of humans and non-humans). Kindred intends to be diagrammatic in form, to demonstrate the networking enacted between differing beings when walking.
