During this time of ecological devastation, it seems critical to foster relationships with the earth that are mutually caring and understanding. Seymour’s work explores non-extractive ways of relating to the natural world - meaning to not take or harm ecologies. Mutualism documents reciprocal relationships witnessed while walking through Pearl Beach Arboretum. She aims to translate these interconnected companions through ‘joining’ and ‘threading’ textile together. Seymour embraces a circular approach to materials by using biodegradable and repurposed fabrics. She returns her materials back to the environment, continuing the ongoing emergence of organic life.
